Can providers issue an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter?

Maybe! Typically, in order to write an Emotional Support Animal letter, you’ll need to meet with a mental health provider licensed in your state multiple times to confirm a diagnosis and that an emotional support animal would be a helpful part of your support system.

We recommend that you message a provider and/or complete our Support Form before booking an appointment to confirm that a specific provider would be a good fit to discuss this request.

Importantly, even if you confirm that a provider is a good fit for an evaluation, it is always up to the discretion of the individual provider after one or more video consultations and full evaluation whether or not a letter is appropriate.
