If you’re located in the United States, some Maven providers may be able to prescribe medication as part of your care. Here’s what to know about how prescribing works on Maven.
Can I get a prescription on Maven?
You may be able to receive a prescription if:
- Your provider is licensed in your state. Providers can only prescribe in states where they’re licensed to practice.
- Your Maven benefit includes prescription services. Prescription access depends on how your employer or health plan has set up your program.
How do I find a provider who can prescribe?
To find a provider who offers prescription services:
- Go to My Care in the app or website.
- Look for the Rx icon on a provider’s photo.
- You’ll also see the title “Prescriber” listed under their name on their profile.
This makes it easy to identify which providers may be able to prescribe during your virtual appointment.
Are there medications that can’t be prescribed?
Yes. Due to federal law, providers on virtual care platforms—including Maven—cannot prescribe controlled substances.
In addition, some employer or health plan programs may not include prescription services as part of their Maven benefit.
A quick note about prescriptions
Prescribing medication is always based on a provider’s clinical judgment. That means we can’t guarantee that you’ll receive a specific prescription. Your provider will determine what’s appropriate for your care during your appointment.
