If you’re joining a video visit from a mobile device, the easiest way to connect is through the Maven app for iOS or Android. If you’re on a laptop or desktop and having trouble starting your video visit on mavenclinic.com, you may need to adjust your browser or device settings.
This guide will walk you through the steps to make sure your camera and microphone are ready—plus offer solutions to common issues.
Before You Start
Make sure:
- You’re using the latest version of your web browser.
- Your webcam and microphone (built-in or external) are working.
- You’re using a supported browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.
Enable Camera and Microphone in Your Browser
When your browser prompts you, select “Allow” or “Always Allow” for both camera and microphone access. You can also adjust these settings manually:
Check System-Level Permissions
Sometimes, your operating system (macOS, Windows, or ChromeOS) needs to grant permission before your browser can access your camera or microphone.
macOS
- Go to Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Under Microphone and Camera, make sure your browser is toggled on.
(See Apple’s documentation: Microphone and Camera)
Windows
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Under Microphone and Camera, toggle on “Let apps access…” and make sure your browser is allowed.
(See Microsoft’s documentation)
ChromeOS
- Click the time in the lower-right corner to open the system menu.
- Go to Settings → Security and Privacy → Privacy Controls.
- Turn on Microphone access and Camera access.
(See ChromeOS documentation)
Still Having Trouble?
If you’ve updated these settings and your video visit still isn’t working:
- Try closing and reopening your browser.
- Restart your computer.
- Test your camera and microphone in another app to confirm they’re working.
